On Saturday the 21st, more than 1 million people across the 50 states of America marched in protest against the new official Trump presidency. The turnout exceeded expectations, however, the question now in most people’s heads is what is next? After examining other movements in history, in order to turn protest into political change, there must be effective organized networks that precede and follow the protest. This was the case with the march on Saturday. The organizers held a networking session called “Where Do We Go From Here”, and Planned Parenthood also held a training session for 2000 participants. Uniting the protestors from this rally was and still is difficult because of range of causes they showed up for. Some people were liberal activists, while others were young children or even senior citizens just trying to share their voice. Having said that, organizers believe that these different people can unite because they share one common idea – revulsion towards the president. Senator Jeff Merkley said, “Trump is the cure here… he brings everybody together”.
