Forbes’s Kathryn Dill compiled a list of the 25 bachelor’s degrees that had the greatest potential for highest income in 2016-2017. The top degree was for petroleum engineering, with an early career pay of $96,700 and mid-career pay of $172,000. Systems engineering came second, with an early career pay of $66,400 and mid-career pay of $121,000. Out of the 28 degrees (including ties), 20 of them were degrees with the word engineering in them. For example, nuclear engineering and biomedical engineering were among the many. Out of the other 8, the majority of degrees were in the fields of science and / or math.
