On January 6th, 2017, Michelle Obama gave her final official speech as First Lady. Her passionate case for embracing diversity in all forms expressed the kind of country her and her husband hope to inspire after leaving Office. She said that, “diversity is not a threat, it makes the country what it is”, and followed with a personal story about her father and his hope. She powerfully and emotionally stated that hope is what moves this country forward – the hope of the future. She addressed all young people, and said that the country belonged to them.
