Patent patter: Tanks not on Apple's to-do list

Patent patter: Tanks not on Apple's to-do list

Oh dear, has there been quite a mix up! A patent on steering mechanics for a tank was falsely assigned to Apple (Yes, that Apple), fueling speculation that Apple was designing military vehicles. The company that actually owns the patent is BAE Systems, who apparently have a similar shortcut code in the computer system to Apple. Lesson: Proofread everything.

Ingenious Job Applicant Puts Her Resume On A Chocolate Bar

Ingenious Job Applicant Puts Her Resume On A Chocolate Bar

This is too clever to ignore. A hopeful job applicant from Australia tried to sweeten her resume by formatting it as a chocolate bar! She sent the confection to several potential employers, and one of them posted a picture on LinkedIn which received over 16,000 likes (which is a lot for LinkedIn). Moral of the story: everybody likes chocolate... and creativity.

Are Student Loan Repayment Plans The Next Big Employee Benefit?

Are Student Loan Repayment Plans The Next Big Employee Benefit?

Ask any college student about what her biggest fear is, and not being able to repay student loans is near the top of the list. Some companies,  like PricewaterhouseCoopers are offering to repay some of the student loans of newly hired graduates. Currently, the program PwC offers only reimburses 1,200 dollars, which sounds relatively insignificant compared to the thousands in debt many graduates have, but the promotion will nevertheless not be ignored.

Tesla misses Q2 earnings, delivers 14,402 vehicles

Tesla misses Q2 earnings, delivers 14,402 vehicles

Despite the high-end electric car company's brilliant marketing, Tesla's economic performance has failed to live up to projections. Tesla's initially vow to sell 80,000 cars by the end of the year is practically a pipe dream halfway through 2016. Fortunately for Tesla the new Model 3 has a well-sized waiting list, but the company won't sell 66,000 vehicles no matter how quickly their plants can produce.

China has actually built an elevated bus that travels above car traffic

2016 has been the test year for the futuristic bus. After Mercedes Bens sampled its self-driving electric bus in the Netherlands, China has unveiled its Transit Elevated Bus. The TEB runs on electricity, is 72 feet long by 25 feet wide, and drives over traffic. It's like a monster truck that picks up passengers. The TEB isn't ready for commercial use yet, but its successful ride today provides a spark for the future of transportation.

New age for airships calls for new age in repairs

New age for airships calls for new age in repairs

"We must rebuild our crumbling airships" - Bernie Sanders

Airships seem to be a forgotten technology, with the advent of drones flying across the sky. One of the last technologies to be renovated, airships can hold copious amounts of products, and necessary for the transportation of goods. Now, airships are turning into hybrids. But while the cost of creating the behemoths is enormous, so are the price of repairs. Expect extreme preventative measures for airship security, as no company wants to shell out big bucks due to carelessness.

Will Facebook be your next call center operator?

Will Facebook be your next call center operator?

It could happen. Chat bots within the Facebook Messenger apps could potentially become a call center. After all, Facebook would save money on staff. Facebook could collect even more data on individuals and their programs, and sell the data to third parties, which is a major way the social media company generates revenue. It all depends on how consumers would react.

Apple beats earnings expectations by a mile, and its stock is soaring

Apple beats earnings expectations by a mile, and its stock is soaring

Quelling concerns of slipping into the depths of the uncreative technology companies, Apple outperformed third quarter revenue projections. The Silicon Valley giant hauled in $42.4 billion last quarter, besting the anticipated $42.09 billion. The underlying issue is the relative obsolescence of Apple's technology, with iPhones losing their magic and the iWatch failing to capture the wallets of consumers.

Reddit is still in turmoil

Reddit is still in turmoil

After firing CEO Ellen Pao, Reddit's goal was to reconfigure itself as a media empire instead of a pseudo-libertarian online message board. One year later, Reddit is scrapping part of its marketing team (predominantly minorities and women), tempering its endeavors for the future. There have also been complaints about the confused management, and uncontrolled outbursts due to Reddit's drinking at work policy, with both men and women filing sexual assault cases.
