Noticing the shortage of people from the LGBTQ+ community in tech due to their lack of opportunity, Lesbians Who Tech, the organization for lesbian and queer women in tech, has established the Edie Windsor Coding Scholarship. 40 people have been selected to receive this scholarship to attend coding bootcamps across many schools, such as General Assembly, Dev Bootcamp, and Turing. The scholarship is the result of a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised over $100,000 from 722 people and Dev Bootcamp’s commitment to match the $100,000 goal. Of the 40 people selected for the scholarship this year, 67 percent are people of color, 10 percent identify as trans and 100 percent are LGBTQ.
